Theology Curator with Kurt Willems

Theology Curator is hosted by Kurt Willems (formerly, The Paulcast). Each episode reflects on a theological, formational, or cultural theme. We might dig into the life and letters of a radical Jewish teacher named Paul; converse about a pressing contemporary issue; reflect on the nature of following Jesus today; or even remedy doom-and-gloom preaching with a good old fashioned dose of hope. This show is an invitation to build bridges between the first century world of the earliest Christ-followers into the twenty-first century reality we now inhabit. The Jesus we excavate from the rubble of tradition might just surprise us all.

This series explores topics such as: allegiance, nationalism, kingdom of God, dominion and stewardship, Revelation and 'end times,' citizenship, creation care, war, and much more.

In this episode, Kurt and Tony explore Jesus' temptation in the desert to have the power of the kingdoms of this world and Judas' betrayal from God's kingdom to those kingdoms. How did Jesus respond? As a servant-King. He models 'power under' rather than the power of the sword. The church in the USA often misses the mark in this regard. Judas betrays Jesus just like we betray his call to engage in politics in a radically different way.

Kurt Willems welcomes Nijay Gupta back to the show. They talk about his book, Beginner's Guide to the New Testament and about theology in general.

The New Testament has several issues that are considered key debates. Some of these include: the synoptic problem, the historical Jesus, Paul and the Law, the book of Revelation, women and leadership, and so many others. His book covers these and several others. We are able to discuss a few of them in this interview as well. A great conversation!

Series: The Bible is a confusing book, without a doubt. There are simple truths that can be easily distilled from the New Testament (God is love, Jesus died to heal the world, we can know God through the Spirit, etc.), but it is ultimately a book that came into being 2,000+ years ago. This series explores the "why," "what," and "how" questions about the Scriptures. Tony Scarcello shares about his new book, Regenerate: Following Jesus after Deconstruction. Kurt Willems wrote the forward, so this is a personal episode you won't want to miss!

Kurt said the following about this book: "In Regenerate, you not only get Tony’s tragically hope-filled story, but you’re invited to encounter the gift of the Jesus he’s discovered under the wrappings of legalism and shame. Tony isn’t only an example of someone following Jesus after deconstruction, but shows us that God is gently calling each of us to be regenerated through our pain, doubts, and questions. I’m so grateful he wrote this book and couldn’t be more excited for you to read it too!"
