Theology Curator with Kurt Willems

Theology Curator is hosted by Kurt Willems (formerly, The Paulcast). Each episode reflects on a theological, formational, or cultural theme. We might dig into the life and letters of a radical Jewish teacher named Paul; converse about a pressing contemporary issue; reflect on the nature of following Jesus today; or even remedy doom-and-gloom preaching with a good old fashioned dose of hope. This show is an invitation to build bridges between the first century world of the earliest Christ-followers into the twenty-first century reality we now inhabit. The Jesus we excavate from the rubble of tradition might just surprise us all.

Welcome to a series called, The Bible. This series is both podcast and newsletter based. For the newsletter version go to https://TheologyCurator.com/newsletter. Subscribe there and get every text-based version of this ongoing series as they release.

Series: The Bible is a confusing book, without a doubt. There are simple truths that can be easily distilled from the New Testament (God is love, Jesus died to heal the world, we can know God through the Spirit, etc.), but it is ultimately a book that came into being 2,000+ years ago. This series explores the "why," "what," and "how" questions about the Scriptures. This isn’t so we can become filled with more information alone, but so that we can step into our own unique place in the story of God.

Scot McKnight talks about his book, Reading Romans Backwards: A Gospel of Peace in the Midst of Empire. He says "The operative terms for Paul ... are Welcome one another to the table as siblings! The whole letter is found in that imperative." He also says "Ethnicity ... is at the heart of both the tension in Romans and the gospel message itself." Listen in as he describes why he reads Romans from back to front and why he thinks you should try it too.

What does Paul have to say about anxiety? What does he have to say about following Jesus during painful seasons? Is it possible to find contentment in the midst of it all? What if love is worth the embrace of pain?

Paul shows us that inner peace can be imagined with Jesus and experienced.
